Plants are a perfect decorative complement capable of creating a new atmosphere in any room and, at the same time, of providing a greater sense of relaxation. Choosing indoor plants that are easy to maintain and taking into account their temperature, light and water needs is essential to keep them in perfect condition, especially if you have little time to take care of them.
Caring for them can be quite an art, but not everyone has the knowledge or the time to keep them looking beautiful and healthy. The first trick is to discard exotic species in favor of others that are adapted to the climate. Large, small, green, flowering, hanging... There are many varieties of native houseplants that will fit perfectly in the chosen places of the house.
Each specimen and even each room has different temperature conditions. Also the different species of indoor plants have different needs. Knowing in advance where in the house you want to place them and knowing the usual temperature in each room will be of great help for a successful choice.
Most indoor plants will be at ease with temperatures of at least 15º or 20º Celsius. Although the most common is that they appreciate environments that do not exceed 24º. In this group are the dracaena, the ficus, the sansevieria, the boxwood of India, the orchid, the verbena or the marigold.
Others, such as clivia or asparagus, adapt well to minimum temperatures between 15º and 20º. While species such as poto or aspidistra are very resistant and tolerate a wide range of temperatures.
Light is another factor to consider when choosing the most suitable low-maintenance houseplants to decorate your home. Varieties such as potos or cacti will need to be near windows, while others need shade, such as aspidistra, or do not tolerate direct light, such as cinta or calatea.
If you do not have much time to take care of the plants, and even if you are not going to pay special attention to them, you may prefer to opt for specimens that require little watering or that are not particularly demanding. Sansevieria, ficus, poto, Adam's rib, succulent plants or cacti are ideal plants in this sense, although you will have to pay attention to the particular needs of each one.
The size of the room and the available space is another factor to take into account when choosing the most suitable type of plant. In rooms with a small surface area, or with a lot of furniture, it will be preferable to choose varieties that are also small in size. While in rooms with ample free space, larger varieties of plants will give a special touch to the decoration of the home.
Hanging plants such as poto or indoor ivy varieties are also easy to maintain houseplants that are ideal for greening the house when space is limited.
In addition to taking into account the temperature, light and water conditions that can be offered to each plant, applying some recommendations when choosing a place for them will help them to be properly maintained.
Avoiding the proximity of radiators, air currents, the magnifying effect that direct light through the glass can cause and choosing a place that does not require constant moving will help them last longer and look their best.
