A backyard with a lot of life

Lack of motivation or lack of budget may be some of the reasons that we impose on ourselves when it comes to changing the look of some area of the house. But, certainly, it is a shame to waste spaces that could be very useful in the day to day when, for little money, we can transform them.

A backyard with a lot of life

This is the case of a backyard like the one in this example, wasted with much regret as it offered many possibilities for times of good weather. An ideal place to gather with family and friends and enjoy the outside of our home, that we would be missing just for not studying different options to achieve an economic transformation and, therefore, no less ideal. This is the proof.

Create a gathering area in the courtyard

The trick is to do everything DIY, with our own work, without the need to hire professionals that would only raise the bill. It is true that for certain DIY tasks we may need expert hands, but that's what it's all about, looking for simple solutions that we can solve ourselves. In this transformation the key was the recycling and recovery of furniture and objects that had been unused until then, the construction of original accessories and furniture and the purchase of bargains and bargains to complete a stylish outdoor environment where good taste is important when decorating to achieve excellent results like these.

Basically, the transformation involved the construction of a square floor slab just outside the house, in the space without a lawn. This concrete slab would become the floor of the courtyard meeting area. Around it, in the purest Zen style, a trench of about 5 cm, not very deep, was emptied to fill with white stones for decorative purposes. The rest of the courtyard, already covered with grass, only had to be treated to recover the beauty of a somewhat neglected vegetation.

On a dry sill, it was time to design the space. We chose to start with a protagonist element, a beautiful wrought iron pergola with cream-colored cotton curtains under which to equip an entire meeting area.  Then, a disused bamboo sofa was recovered and repainted in black to match the pergola and to protect it outdoors, the upholstery was changed and comfortable cushions with new prints, made by the owner, were added.

Several restored pieces stand out, as is the case of the coffee table, made only with one of the parts of an old wire coil and with a large galvanized bucket that served as a base and on which the round wood rested. Due to the great weight of the coil, no gripping system or adhesive was used to attach it to the bucket. Of course, the coil piece had to be well disinfected of woodworm and other insects, cleaned and restored until it was well sanded and with the aged appearance that you see in the images.

Also recovered were the two steel chairs in green that were simply given a coat of paint and left to dry. In the background, we see a French style side table that had also been recovered and restored by the owner in a shabby chic style stripped in sky blue. ideal!

To renew the overall framework of this space, the facade of the house was thoroughly cleaned and the front door repainted so that no detail would fail. Decorative complements were then added such as the picture on the wall, which we can make with a pizza box upholstered with a similar beautiful fabric, the strip of light bulbs that runs around the perimeter or structure of the pergola to give a touch of warmth and romanticism to the space at night, or all the green plants that were placed in the corners and other holes in the area and that bring the natural note.

The change is impressive, and with it came a new room in the house to show off to guests, and to show off with the pride that comes from hard work of your own so spectacular. Follow some of these ideas if you've long been embarrassed by a wasted patio that you'd like to make better use of. good luck!
