There are very simple ways to save on decorative elements without detracting from the style of our home. We can create decorative objects ourselves that we would normally buy in stores, with very similar results and spending much less money. If we also like gardening, we can have a great time creating a very natural centerpiece.
It all depends on your imagination, since a centerpiece can be created with all the natural elements you want. The basic materials we need are:
A nice container, in the style you want to achieve, a wooden box for a rustic or Nordic look, a fountain in bright colors for a more modern atmosphere or a tray or container made of natural fibers for a Christmas decoration, for example.
Gardening sponge. This is a special material sold in specialized stores where natural elements such as flowers, leaves or stems can be stuck and which can also be natural because it absorbs and transmits moisture well. However, it is a temporary element since plants or flowers do not survive long in it.
Moss or grass sods previously cut. This is an optional element but it is the general element to create the base of a beautiful natural or country centerpiece.
Flowers with resistant stems. We can choose roses, chrysanthemums, tulips or daisies. It will depend on the season, but you can choose the species and colors that best suit your decor or your tastes.
Ornamental or artificial elements. This is the extra of our centerpiece. They can be pine cones, other dried fruits, candles, ornamental figurines such as animals grazing in the center, fairies, a dwarf, a wooden house, etc. It depends on what and where we use the centerpiece for.
When we have all the elements ready, we will begin to assemble the center. The first thing we have to do is to seal the chosen container with a piece of aluminum foil at the base. We will fill it with the gardening sponge previously moistened.
On this base we will place the sods of grass or moss, covering well the whole surface. On this base we will mount our center with the chosen flowers or herbaceous plants.
We have to be clear about the floral composition we want to make, as well as the combination of heights and colors. Once we have thought about it, we will cut the stems according to the desired height and begin to nail them on the sponge and moss until they are well secured. Alternate bright or contrasting colors, as well as flowers with a herbaceous plant, fern branch, etc.
When you have the finished composition, all that remains is to add the extra elements around the center or in a corner. Now we have a unique and personal centerpiece, which we can change and renew whenever we want, customizing it according to the time of year or the holiday we celebrate such as Christmas, Easter, Valentine's Day or Halloween.
