The 3 basic factors in the choice of shower curtains

Today we want to stop instead in the shower curtains, an optional element (not all bathrooms have it) but it is the most useful and economical, without having to give up the design.

Curtains are the natural alternative to shower enclosures when you want to save money, time or flexibility. They adapt to both showers and bathtubs, and although it may seem that their choice does not have too much importance, the truth is that they are an element of great presence in the bathroom and therefore can not be chosen lightly.

As in any decorative detail, we must take into account 3 basic premises that will help us in the process of choosing our shower curtains: its composition, its manufacture and its design. Let's get to it!

1. Materials

The material of the curtain is the first factor to take into account. There are basically two types of curtains:

Plastic Curtains

They are the most frequent and economical, allowing very original and varied designs since their plastic composition does not present manufacturing limitations, making them the ideal curtain for transient housing.

Their fully waterproof finish withstands moisture and rubbing better, retaining their original good looks longer. They have a stiffer drape and look less pleasant to the touch, but they do a great job as a physical barrier to water.

Textile Curtains

It is considered a more elegant type of curtain because of its fabric finish and light drape. Their textile composition makes them particularly delicate and favorable to the proliferation of bacteria if they are not properly ventilated and allowed to dry, although the industry has made great progress in their waterproofing.

They come in a wide variety of styles, but unlike the plastic ones, the designs are usually more sober and the color ranges are generally neutral.

2. Confection

The second factor to be taken into account is the way it is made.

Plain curtains

Simple, unobtrusive, usually in white or translucent, the plain curtains, either in plastic or fabric, try to go unnoticed to focus the decoration on the rest of the bathroom.

Ready-made curtains

In this case they are curtains that carry a certain work of tailoring in different fabrics, whether gauze, cotton and ruffles or lace.  They usually fulfill a more decorative purpose and are perfect for vintage bathrooms or to decorate freestanding bathtubs that serve the function of shower and therefore need protection against splashes.

3. Design

This is the last (but not least) factor to consider when choosing the shower curtain. In the market we can find from the simplest to the most elaborate designs, so depending on the air we want to give to the bathroom (minimal, contemporary, classic, shabby chic), so should be the curtain, accompanied by the most appropriate tone.

 Neutral curtains

White, ecru or pearl gray tones, as well as smooth textures are the most suitable if we want a simple and bright bathroom or highlight other elements of its decoration.

Sober tones

Beiges, browns and medium grays, also in smooth textures, are the most suitable for masculine bathrooms or for those looking for a sober but elegant decoration.

Bright colors

Ideal for cheerful personalities or to give a fun and different touch to the bathroom, bright colors are the most suitable. They are also perfect if you live in a rented apartment and you find the pristine white bathroom that came "standard" the most nondescript.

Geometric prints

Stripes, circles, or chevron patterns never go out of style. Geometric finishes give the bathroom a young and informal look but without stridency. If you want to give it an elegant look, opt for black and white. If you prefer a more youthful look, color is the way to go.

Tropical prints

We have already seen recently how the tropical jungle or urban tropical trend is in fashion in interior design and the bathroom was not going to be an exception. Large palm leaves, trees or floral motifs sprout from the shower curtains transporting us to the tropics in a tris.

Illustrations

Outside the tropics, the illustrations can recreate any place: waves or anchors for a marine decoration, exotic designs emulating East Asia for the taste of the most bohemian, are at home in the showers of the mid-West.

Photographic murals 

If illustration brings an artistic air to any shower curtain, photography gives it an essentially realistic look. Whether it is a landscape, an animal, an imitation of a material or a city skyline, there is nothing like an image to recreate it as faithfully as possible.

Children's curtains
