It's no secret that natural is in fashion. Wicker, rattan, natural stone... and of course wood. However, until not so long ago, wood applied to furniture usually had a polished and smooth aesthetic, where the grain was seen but not felt.
All this changed with the rise of the industrial style first and the tropical and Mediterranean later, thanks to which wood in its rawest version began to make its way and today, any piece of furniture made from logs brings a special plus to the spaces.
This gives rise to small tables with knots in relief, textured tables where you can feel the life of the tree when you pass your hand, room dividers that have nothing to envy to a forest... In short, a whole world of applications to inspire you. Let's take a look at the main ones!
It is probably one of the most common applications of the use of logs in the decoration, since by its particular shape and size, one can directly create the table based on a piece of the log itself, since it only needs a base for the floor and another to support various belongings.
Another classic application for the same reason as the previous ones: the simplicity of its forms. However, for coffee tables, larger trunks are needed, as they require a larger surface area than the auxiliary tables.
However, since thick trunk trees are more expensive and scarce, an alternative option would be to combine two or three small tables as a set.
And if you are looking for the aesthetics of wood but the soft tones of white or ecru, you can always paint (either the upper base or the entire trunk).
Similar to the side tables, the trunks are ideal to put on the sides of the bed, as they provide a perfect contrast to the softness of the sheets and allow them to maintain their support function. Of course, the drawers are more difficult to place :)
Sometimes, a side table can serve as a multifunctional piece of furniture and become an emergency stool for when we have more guests than chairs at home. In these cases, just place a small circular cushion on the base and voilà, we have our stool!
In this case the "trunk" aesthetics is more difficult to appreciate with the naked eye, since the surface must be thin and rectangular, but you can find today dining tables in wood with imperfect edges or very marked veins where it seems that the forest has been brought to the table.
Sometimes, especially in circular tables, a tree trunk can be used as a base or foot of the table. In this way, even if the top is made of glass or white DM, the base provides a natural counterpoint that is very decorative.
Trees are used to living outdoors, so their trunks can perfectly survive the vicissitudes of the weather. That is why this type of furniture is perfect for use on terraces or in gardens, whether as seating, improvised lights or refreshment tables.
Thinner branches and tree trunks can be used as room dividers or to build frames for mirrors or pictures, as a structure to make a canopy bed or as support legs for a console table.
The raw wood can also be used as a countertop for consoles (adding their corresponding legs) or as an original sliding door to cover gaps.
Its ease of carving also makes it possible to create sculptural objects that have a dual aesthetic and practical function, either as a seat or as a coffee table.
And sometimes, the very interior aesthetics of the trunk, with its central knot and its ramifications towards the exterior, serve as the focus of attention both in real furniture and in photography applied to textiles.
Those of you who are handy, you can include wheels to the furniture made from logs to move them at will. This is particularly interesting in the case of tables made from solid logs, because their weight is such that lifting them by hand can be an odyssey.
In addition to casters, the trunks can be fitted with fixed legs. In this way, different materials can be combined, giving the furniture a more finished or industrial look.
The most common is to incorporate iron or forged legs in black, but for every taste colors :)
Other times wood itself is used as a material to create a more natural ambience
As you can see, tree trunks can be applied in thousands of ways and forms to the furniture of a house, but in case you had been left wanting more, we leave you with a few more images for your inspiration. Long live wood!
